Since October 1998 the Austrian Association for Service Abroad works
together with one of the most important Holocaust Remembrance
Institutions of Great Britain - the Institute of Contemporary
History and Wiener Library in London. There, two young Austrian
Gedenkdienst workers assist the staff in the following fields:
- cataloging of unpublished documents
- conservation of fragile material and photos
- assistance for organisation of academic events
- assistance in the Journal of Holocaust education
- participation and assistance in conferences and lectures
The association is also
glad to welcome another important partner organization in
London in the near future:
The National Yad
Vashem Charitable Trust.
*The term "Gedenkdienst" was invented by Dr. Maislinger
who founded an organisation with the same name in 1992.
Apart
from "Gedenkdienst", the association also cooperates with its first partner organization in
the field of social work in the UK. In future, Austrian
"Sozialdiener" will assist the teachers of the
Royal London Society for the Blind in their work with blind
pupils.
